This week the sun enters Cancer, marking summer in the Northern Hemisphere and winter in the Southern Hemisphere. The solstice is a time where either the light (summer) or the night (winter) is exaggerated. A time when the sun appears to stand still in the sky. A time that offers the Northern Hemisphere a peak outward expression and the Southern an intensified inward experience. The origins of many cultures and religious traditions will have some kind of celebration or festival that is connected to this moment in the sun’s journey. Do some investigating to see what your ancestors might have done to align themselves with the season that they were welcoming in.

With the sun, Mercury and the new moon joining Mars in Cancer, this week pulls focus on the most dynamic of water signs. Cancer initiates us into the realms of our emotional life. This sign holds the memories that evoke the strongest emotional responses from within us. This sign holds volumes of information about the kind of nourishment we received and the kind that we never did but must learn to give ourselves. This sign holds our origin stories.

Cancer represents the oceans that humanity began in and the waters of the wombs that brought us here. Cancer knows that water holds memory. Cancer knows that each tear shed can be a release of the past. Cancer knows the importance of understanding our genesis in order to consciously and compassionately create our present.

Hours after the sun enters Cancer, so too does Mercury. Around sunrise along the Pacific coast on Wednesday, Mercury’s day, the sun and Mercury will come together forming their superior conjunction. The superior conjunction occurs when Mercury is furthest from us, on the far side of the sun. This aspect is called cazimi, or ‘in the heart of’. Happening at 0° of Cancer, a very powerful point of the zodiac, the sun and Mercury want to get to the heart of our emotional experience. Listening for the messages from the great beyond, Mercury will be channeling universal wisdom that aims to helps us make sense of our sometimes very heavy human experience. We can’t lighten up until we get real about what is weighing us down. Until all life is cared for, we can’t feel safe or secure. Personally or collectively.

As a way of paying homage to this new lunar cycle and this week’s astrology, visit any body of water that is close to you. Sit yourself by an ocean, lake, river or stream so that you can soak up the healing properties of the element that you originate from. Reflect on the deep reserves of emotional energy that are within you. For those of us that are disconnected from our human parents, visiting the birthplace of all of existence, our elemental mother, can be incredibly healing.

Surrounding all the activity in Cancer are helpful aspects between Venus, Mercury, and Mars and the outer planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, which bodes well for our ability to use this new moon for whatever kind of emotional mending we need.

Aries & Aries Rising

I use Friday’s new moon to recommit to taking care of the foundations of my life. I know that I need roots to rise. I know that I need to feel held in order to hold. I know that I need to be healing in order to help healing occur. I know that I need to feed myself in order to not show up hangry.

I know that when I am out of sorts it’s time to sort myself out.

I use Friday’s new moon to sort myself out. Witness myself as I need to be witnessed. Recuperate what I have lost on the battlefield of my life. Realign my home so that when I open the door I feel welcomed and invited to unwind.

I know that my ability to participate well in every aspect of my life requires that I be able to help myself regulate. Recalibrate. Right what has felt wrong. I know that no matter how much I love my family, how well I was raised or how hard I have worked to heal the traumas of my childhood, there is always another layer of self-care I am learning to provide myself with. Without becoming overly precious about it. Without taking myself too seriously. Without becoming too fragile to be held accountable. I can work on my own healing without losing my connection to the world around me, taking moments for myself so that I can best give back to everyone else.

Taurus & Taurus Rising

I take Friday’s new moon as an invitation to integrate healing rituals into my mornings, afternoons and evenings. Little rituals. Moments that remind me to tune into my needs. Pauses that help me to feel cared for, witnessed and nurtured. Nothing too cumbersome or overwhelming, just a subtle infusion of kindness that comforts me.

Friday’s new moon is reminding me about the ways in which I tend to hold on to what hurts me. It’s a new moon that helps me to remember which rituals help me to release excess emotions, memories and residues from difficult conversations. It’s a new moon that reminds me that it is my duty to help myself find ways to reset my emotional body as well as my physical one.

I know how easy it is to carry the charge of intense interactions in my body. I know that my body stores the excess emotions that I can’t process in the moment. I know that the more I invoke kindness and care into my days, the more I heal.

Love is the ritual Friday’s new moon is asking me to perform.

I remember how hungry I am for it. How earnestly I yearn for it. How unquestioningly I deserve it. I use Friday’s new moon to find every excuse to give myself every bit of it, all day long.

Gemini & Gemini Rising

I celebrate Friday’s new moon by putting aside a certain amount of my resources to take care of my needs. I allocate funds for my healing. Even the smallest amount is a start. Even a little bit is a signal to myself that my healing is worth being a financial priority.

My work is an extension of myself and some of the compensation I get for my efforts needs to be put back into my self-care account. Because I count. And I count myself.

Friday’s new moon is my annual invitation to renew my relationship to my resources and how I create with them. It is my chance to refresh my relationship to my livelihood, to realign myself with what is healing, nursing and life-giving in regards to my work. This new moon reminds me of what I need to feel secure, stable and well-cared for. I consider what assets I want to build over the next 6 months and make a plan that I put in place during this lunation cycle.

I seek out ways to work with my talents that encourage my healing. I am not a machine, nor am I interested in being a cog in the wheel of consumerism, so I relate to my gifts with great respect for their spiritual worth.

Cancer & Cancer Rising

I cultivate the courage to care. More. I tap into the spiritual audacity it takes to show love to those that aren’t always able to show it to me. Even when I don’t want to. I connect to the sources of healing that can help me to move beyond the desire to seek revenge so that I can move towards the work I most wish to accomplish.

Petty is not a prerogative of mine.

Friday’s new moon in Cancer is my invitation to renew my commitment to myself and all that I wish to make manifest in this life. Friday’s new moon is my invitation to witness what gets in the way of my self-acceptance. I do not wish to force any false forgiveness but I do not wish to carry forth any old resentments. I seek to live a life that challenges me to grow and make choices that engender my self-respect. I cannot waste my precious time or energy helping hate to take up residence in my heart. I will not lend my energy to what does not give me back its own. I actively care for what gives a damn.

Because I do.

I take this new moon as an invitation to initiate myself into a new cycle. I write down the experiences I am making room for. I write down the magic that I am manifesting for myself. I write down a list of loving thoughts that I most want to hear from myself all year long. I create images that help me to remember how held I am, how loved I am, and how right I am for my life. No one else’s. Just my own. I take nothing for granted about where I have gotten myself to and I use everything I can as an opportunity to deepen my connection to all aspects of myself and my life.

Leo & Leo Rising

I take Friday’s new moon as an invitation to empty out. I take the mental debris I have accumulated out to the recycling bins. I take what has been stained by the emotional experiences of the last while to the laundromat for cleansing. I take the knots in my shoulders to those that can help me untie myself.

I am allowed to unwind. Unfurl. Unfold as I need to.

Especially when things are going well. Especially when I’m being witnessed for what I can do in my career. Especially when I am experiencing success and sweetness for what I give to the world. I know that I don’t have to be present at every single social situation. I know that I need to be discerning in what I lend my energy to because the truth is that being out in the world gives me a certain kind of juice while being engaged in my inner world gives me another. Both are important. Both will give me signs and signals of what I need to do next

I need to be helping myself find balance right now. The last thing this world needs is more of us with less of that. I remind myself that taking care of my inner life is a small way that I can help take care of the world at large.

Virgo & Virgo Rising

Friday’s new moon is my time to reconnect to my people. It’s my time to remember the healing power of the collective. It’s my time to surround myself with those that get my vision and are willing to do the work to see it come to fruition.

The medicinal value of being witnessed, met and challenged by my peers is unparalleled.

Friday’s new moon reminds me how much wisdom can be accessed when I value the knowledge that each person in the group brings with them. I commit to seeking out the help I need from the folks that are adept at what they do. I commit to creating spaces where we all get fed. I commit to valuing the sustenance that a gathering of good souls can grow.

I use Friday’s new moon to believe in my ability to call in the co-conspirators that I need right now. I know that every dream that lives within me has a patron saint I have yet to meet. I am open to the people that can connect me to the reality of my dreams. I am a firm believer in the power of our collective healing being a beautiful byproduct of our ability to sustain and support one another.

Libra & Libra Rising

Friday’s new moon is reminding me that my main career is to find what it is I care about and pursue it with all I’ve got. With all my time. All my energy. All my talent. All I have been given to work with.

On the way to that I will come up against all that gets in the way of me feeling like I have the right to be in pursuit of what I hold so dear. On the way to that I will come up against all that gets in the way of believing in my ability to pursue it successfully. On the way to that I will come up against all that gets in the way of me feeling confident that this thing is mine to do.

I’m OK with momentary doubts. They give me all the more reason to sharpen my resolve. Question my motives. Understand my course of action. This week asks me to take a big risk without feeling too big for my britches. It’s asking me to feel the wide open spaces of opportunity while being realistic about the effort it requires. It is asking me to believe in myself while encouraging myself to be as strategic, organized and professional as I can be.

Scorpio & Scorpio Rising

Friday’s new moon is an invitation to stretch myself. Grow myself. Find new things out about myself. There are few things more depressing than thinking that I know all there is to know about the process of my life. I am part of a greater mystery, unfolding as it wants to. My job is to learn how to trust it. Study it. Have faith in its unfolding.

Friday’s new moon reminds me to explore. My options. My perspective. My relationship to what I hold to be true. Being a lover of the truth means that I am willing to question it from every angle. I respect what can be held up to a rigorous test.

Friday’s new moon reminds me how healing a change of scenery can be. How healing a conversation can be. How healing it is to unlearn an unsupportive philosophy.

Friday’s new moon is asking me to source the texts, teachers and practices that encourage my well-being. My emotional well-being. My psychological well being. My creative well-being. This world has a tendency to recreate so much pain, suffering and injustice. It seems, at times, to want to break everything, including us. It has a way of forgetting what can bring us back to balance. I use Friday’s new moon to restore a small part of the world by beginning with myself and letting whatever healing I can cultivate flow out to everything else.

Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising

I trust my trust issues. I allow myself to be honest about the ways in which I have felt betrayed in the past. About the ways in which I was let down. About the events that have left me feeling abandoned by humans. By life.

But I trust in my ability to heal more than I trust in the way painful experiences keep me from wanting to join forces with others. I am learning how to merge my energy with those that vibrate with vitality and honesty. I am learning how to recognize whose time increases the length of my life. I am learning how to recognize whose talent and resources optimize my own.

I am learning how to trust my ability to choose the places and the partnerships that have our mutual growth as there sole intention. I am learning how to sort out the past from the present. I am learning how to place myself in the spaces that help me to understand the power of healthy partnerships.

I use Friday’s new moon to remember that I deserve to be supported, appreciated for my contributions and to be in collaborations that respect me as an equal. I use Friday’s new moon to work on partnering with myself in this way. I use Friday’s new moon to remember what it is that I most want to collaborate with in life and to trust that it is possible to do so.

Capricorn & Capricorn Rising

Friday’s new moon reminds me how important it is to reset my commitments to my relationships. Partnerships are a constant source of reflection. If I want to show up for and contribute to the magic that my unions can create, I have to be able to sit with what they reveal to me about myself. I have to be able to get clear about what my intention for coupling is. I have to be able to show up for the healing as well as all the good feelings.

No matter the nature of these pairings, be it business or love, they are bound to bring up what I most need to heal. They are bound to bring up what I most need to feel. They are bound to bring up what I most need to know. About myself. About my way of relating to my life. About the ability that I have to grow beyond the walls that pain has held me in.

I use Friday’s new moon as a gateway of gratitude for all that I am learning about loving and being loved. Holding and being held. Healing and being healed. I use Friday’s new moon to remember to be gentle with myself in this process. As gentle with myself as I’d want anyone else to be with me.

Aquarius & Aquarius Rising

Friday’s new moon is my invitation to reset my commitment to my work life. I use this week to get clear on what it is I wish to accomplish over the next 6 months. What skills I’ll have to sharpen in order to do so. What commitments I need to get serious about making. What free time I am willing to part with if I really want this.

I use this week to visualize the kind of projects I want to be a part of. I know how powerful it is to be able to create the feeling of what I wish to experience before I experience it. I know how powerful it is to have an image, sound or sensation to call upon when working to manifest what I wish to bring into form.

I use this week to gather all that inspires me into action.

I remember to make my healing as important as anything else in this process. I place my well-being in the blueprints of my success. I remember the needs of my body, heart and soul as I map out the days of my calendar. I never remove myself from the equation of my work, because my healing deepens my ability to create spaces where deep healing can occur.

Pisces & Pisces Rising

I use Friday’s new moon as reason to remember that art is healing. I immerse myself in images that evoke a sense of well-being within me. I listen to the words and sounds that speak to my soul. I wrap myself up in the colors that soothe my weariness, drape myself in the fabrics that help to hold me together and adorn myself with what lifts my spirits. I remember to heal myself through joy as much as I do through effort.

I know that my self expression is anything but frivolous. I know that indulging my inner artist is liberating a part of me that might not always feel welcome in the world, and that it is my responsibility to make sure it feels welcomed. I know that making room for my creativity can be a revelation and I am ready to awaken to the power of doing so. I know that there is no getting my self-expression right; there is only getting right with the way it wants to move through me.

I use Friday’s new moon to initiate myself into another level of self-acceptance. Accepting that I might have misunderstood what I have thought to be my flaws. Accepting that I might have wasted my time and energy trying to change the shape of what already is perfectly formed. Accepting that sometimes my healing comes through the simplest of actions, like getting myself to the places and spaces that celebrate life in the way I wish to.
